Tunisian kilims are known for the harmony of their patterns and colors. They recall the Berber history of Tunisia and differ from the Turkish or Persian kilim by their patterns, their thickness and their manufacturing technique. Tunisian kilims are very sturdy and neither too thin nor too thick : lighter than knotted rugs and thicker than Middle Eastern kilims.
Each tribe or village has its own styles and patterns. The patterns are always very tightly woven and therefore sharper and more defined than on knotted rugs.
